SYNOPSIS

Director’s Statement

My new short film, “A Little Holiday” has its roots in an idea that came to me 11 years ago for a self-conscious reality that recycles itself in order to improve its own experience, until one day, the natural cycling breaks. This idea had come from a combination of the belief structure I was raised in, along with my idiotic understanding of astrophysics and quantum mechanics. I had made a general story bible with characters, arcs, and ideas for episodes. The project is called This Space Space, an anthology series of seemingly disconnected events, but when looked at as a whole, the overarching narrative is revealed.

“A Little Holiday” is the third movie in the series, and is an elementary exploration of simulation theory. One of my goals with these projects is to tackle high concept ideas in a fun, light way where even if the narrative isn’t fully grasped by the audience, there is enough entertainment value in the spectacle of the piece.

Having an idea can be a weird, lonely experience. It may make complete sense in your head, but as soon as you try to explain it, it becomes an incomprehensible mess. Making these films is a way where I can hopefully share these ideas with an audience in a somewhat digestible way, and in doing so, they may share the same excitement for the idea that I have.
